Tuesday,  April 6, 2021 - Update on Library Closure:

Dear patrons,

On April 3, 2021, a provincial shutdown was put in effect for (28) days. As a result, the public library will be temporarily closed for the month of April. We are hoping to resume our regular opening hours in early May.

You can still arrange to pick-up library material by placing holds in the online catalog or contacting the staff. Anyone with a library card can also download the Libby app to download free audiobooks and eBooks.

We will continue to monitor media releases from the provincial government and updates from the Northwestern Health Unit and the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority.

On January 11, 2021 the government of Ontario declared a State-of-Emergency and issued a stay-at-home order. This order was extended on January 16, 2021 and is currently set to end on February 16, 2021. During this time the doors to the Sioux Lookout Public Library will remain closed.

Patrons can still place holds and arrange for pickup at the front door (requests may take 2-3 days to fill depending on staff availability). Lending limits and overdue charges remain the same. Patrons are kindly asked to place their material into the book drop that is located outside the building near the front entrance. All material returned to the library is placed in quarantine for (7) days.

During this time, a modified schedule will be put into place so staff members are working alone in the library or in groups of (2) as much as possible. All staff members will be doing a combination of working remotely and inside the building.

The library offers access to the Libby app that patrons can use to download from a selection of over 90,000 free audiobooks, eBooks, and magazines. Your library card also gives remote access to research databases and other online publications (these platforms are only available through payment or having a library card).

We will wait for an update from the provincial government and guidance from the Northwestern Health Unit on how best to proceed after February 19, 2021.

LIBRARY CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Effectively immediately, the Sioux Lookout Public Library will be closed on a temporary basis in response to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Canada. We believe this is the best course of action to keep our community safe—along with the communities we serve as the Hub of the North.

While we are expecting the closure to last approximately 3 weeks, please be prepared for a longer closure. Library materials can still be returned to the book drop.

Our digital services will remain active throughout the closure. Patrons can download audiobooks/eBooks to their devices with the Libby app, read magazines/graphic novels with the RBdigital app, and access several professional online resources listed on our website: slpl.on.ca/resources.

Please reach out to the CEO/Chief Librarian for any questions or concerns related to this closure (ceo@slpl.on.ca / 1-807-737-3660 ext. 4401). You can contact library staff for assistance with your library account or other information needs (info@slpl.on.ca / 1-807-737-3660).

We apologize in advance for this disruption of service.

Sincerely,

Mike Laverty
